Why Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Ladies Boxing Gloves_2Get your gloves on, it's time to go to the doctors office.

Over the past 8 weeks it seems as though all I do is
breastfeed and go to the doctor’s office. If you happen to be one of those
parents who don’t believe in letting your baby cry it out then you sure have
your work cut out for you. My latest family edition has severe eczema and
reflux, two common but very uncomfortable conditions. We have been from pediatrician
to gastroenterologist, to dermatologist, to lactation consultant in an attempt
to find our daughter some relief, yet everywhere we turn there is someone else
telling you that the other guy is wrong. WTF?

A rhetorical question for everyone… why can’t they all just
get along? Why must they all live in the dark about the other options that are
available to parents? The doctors don’t like the doulas and lactation consultants,
the lactation consultants don’t like certain doctors, and everyone ultimately has
their own opinion. Confusing for anyone, especially a new parent. My child is
crying and miserable and no one can agree on how to help her. “ Let her cry”, “
she’ll grow out of it”, she is too big, too small, just fussy, hungry, just has
gas, is tongue tied, has reflux, is allergic to milk, soy, laundry detergent,
needs medication, doesn’t need medication, should be breast fed, should be
bottle fed with cereal, It is enough to make your head spin. How do we as
parents decide which “Expert” to listen to? I don’t have that answer. What I do
know is that I am not going to stop until I feel comfortable with the type and quality
of care my daughter is getting. Not an easy task. Wish me luck.
