Things to Do Now in Queens

Pool 2 I was speaking to a friend who had come on to the site
looking for “things to do” with her kid. She looked around for a bit and couldn’t
find anything. Nothing to do on Queens Mamas? Disgrace! That is like a day
without sunshine. I realized that we have spent a lot of time lately telling
you about all the special things going on but none of the ordinary, everyday stuff.
This conversation has inspired me to begin a new series of articles about just
plain old things to do. No events, performances, or special outings. Just
Queens NY family fun that can be had on any day.

Skate and Swim at Flushing
Meadow Park Aquatic Center and Ice Rink

You do not need a membership to visit this amazing center
inside Flushing Meadow Park. Half pool and half ice skating rink you can
literally enjoy winter in the summer and summer in winter. There are open swim
and skate hours every day of the week. There is a 3 foot section of the pool
for little ones and lap swimming for moms who need to burn off some baby
weight. The ice skating rink also has occasional free figure skating
performances. We will let you know when they come up.

Visit the Toy Qube

Prince Street in Flushing is off the beaten track and a great place for
a stroll. Toy Qube & Gallery is
Toyqube_store1 located on Prince and houses an impressive
collection of Vinyl toys from all over the world. You kids wil enjoy a cool toy
boutique full of things they can’t find anywhere else. Walk a little further
down Spring Street and you can grab a bite at Sentosa, a Malaysian restaurant that
serves tasty noodles and pineapple fried rice. They also serve a shaved ice

Old Time Sweets on
Metropolitan Ave

Krauses Candy and Eddies Sweet Shop are two old standing
sweet spots on Metropolitan Ave. in Forest Hills. Eddies makes homemade ice
cream with old world charm in the dark stained wood booths with marble
countertops and a hand painted glass sign. The grooves in the floor have been
made from kids all the way back to the 50’s coming in for a treat. They have
root beer floats, mint chocolate chip to die for and a great atmosphere to
boot. Krauses Candy has been making chocolate
04eddies by hand on Metropolitan Ave since
1935. It is now a beautifully decorated toy and candy shop that is reminiscent
of an old 5 and 10. This is a great place to spend allowance money of get mom
something just for fun. Wink wink.

Krause’s Candy Kitchen is a magical walk back to the time
when small shops ruled New York City. With its plank wood floors and charming
Victorian décor, Krause’s creates a small oasis in the middle of this busy area
of Queens. Guitars, Horse Heads, Turkeys, and Santas are only some of the
handmade creations that you will find here
