Where to See Free Outdoor Concerts in Queens This Summer 2010

Ny philharmonic There is nothing I like more than a free outdoor concert.
Bringing a picnic blanket, some food, friends, and kids to run around while I
have a small moment of feeling cultured and civilized. It is all that a mom can
ask. This summer, Queens has a great line up of free concerts happening all
over the borough. Starting on June 30th with the Astoria Waterfront Independence
Celebration where you can see Big Band music and fireworks and the New York
Philharmonic is also playing in Cunningham Park later in July. Read on for all of
the free and fun places to enjoy free concerts in Queens this summer.



Central Astoria's Waterfront Independence Celebration

7:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.

This early Independence Day Celebration features an
evening of Big Band Music followed by a spectacular Grucci fireworks display.

Astoria Park Concert Series

Thursday Evenings at 7:30pm

July 8th – August 12th

There will be free performances on the lawn in Astoria
Park with performers like, The Artie Shaw Orchestra and The Nashville Attitude.


Summer Fun Children’s Series

Children’s musical performances will be happening throughout
July and August in both Athens Square Park and Dutch Kills Park with
performances like “This Land is Your Land” and “Little Red Riding Hood”

to expose kids to culture then to take them straight to the source.

Held every summer in the museum's Japanese-styled garden,
these free concerts feature up-and-coming traditional jazz bands that play and
promote the music of Louis Armstrong. 
All concerts begin at 1pm and are FREE

Fourth of July Birthday Party

Sunday, July 4

Free garden jazz concert at 1pm. Museum opens for tours
noon to 5pm.  In celebration of Louis
Armstrong’s traditional birthday (July 4th, 1900), families can join the
birthday celebration with a free jazz concert in the museum garden, take a
guided house tour, and enjoy complimentary birthday cake.
