The Museum is pleased to continue offering family workshops conducted in Japanese. Families with children between the ages of 2 and 4 are invited participate in Art for Tots in Japanese. Families with children between the ages of 5 and 11 should register for our Art for Families in Japanese workshops. All classes cost $5 for families with up to 6 members. Fun with Chinese Characters

These classes are for the whole family.  Parent(s) learn and play alongside their child.Fun with Chinese Charactersteaches Chinese language using creative dramatics, storytelling and music.  Classes are taught by a native speaker who also has a strong theatre background and language teaching experience. Classes start Saturday September 24th and run 11 weeks and are open to children ages 3-13. Fees include a CD of music, a final performance and access to a collection of DVDs that families can borrow.  Free trial classes are being offered on Saturday, Sept. 10th and 17th.  Classes are separated into a preschool imaginative play group for 3 – 5 year olds and a theatre/creative dramatics group for gradeschoolers ages 6-13. With a background in Theatre Studies, Merrianne spent 7 years in Beijing where she studied at the Beijing Opera. “I was studying next to 11 year olds. It was embarrassing at times” she recalls, but this gave her a unique perspective on how children learn when exposed to the arts.
