Winter is the perfect time to bundle up and enjoy a family outing of ice skating fun. Head over to one of these great local ice skating rinks and see what your family can do on the ice. Here’s a list of some of the citys’ best skating destinations (indoor and outdoor). Now grab your gear, and get going!
- in Queens – City Ice Pavilion in Long Island City is a roof top rink. It offers public skating, figure skating, skating lessons and winter and summer camps. Public skating hours are available during the week, as well as on the weekends, including Saturday night.
Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers is open every day of the week for public skating except Wednesday. The rink also offers adult and children’s hockey, lessons, figure skating, and birthday parties.
- in Queens – The World Ice Arena in Flushing Meadows Park offers public skating every day of the week.
Out of Town:
Port Washington Skating Rink hosts open indoor skating sessions for the public throughout the winter season.
Ice Land is located close to the city in New Hyde Park this indoor ice skating rink holds open skating sessions that include a teen night and childrens’ skating session for children 10 years and younger.
Wollman Rink in Central Park is the quintessential New York experience. What better way to experience The City thank by skating underneath the stars in it’s most famous park? Wollman Rink is located close to the south entrance of the park at W. 59th Street and 6th Avenue, and is open from late October to early April.
Lasker Rink in Central Park is a swimming pool that converts to an ice-skating rink in the winter. Lasker Rink is located mid-park between 106th and 108th Streets, and offers public skating, ice hockey, and lessons.
Winter Village at Bryant Park is Manhattan’s only free ice skating rink (pretty amazing, especially in New York). The rink is open from October 29th through February 27th, and lessons are available. Celsius restaurant, overlooking the park, is a great post skate destination for yummy snacks and hot chocolate.
McCarren Rink in Williamsburg Brooklyn is an outdoor rink open from November -January that holds open skating sessions 7 days a week.
Lakeside at Prospect Park is a brand new recreational facility opening this season that includes an outdoor ice skating rink, skate rentals and a variety of services for families.
