Ice Cream Crawl – Piu Bella

Next up in the Queens Ice Cream Crawl – Caffe Piu Bella, in Forest Hills.

Caffe Piu Bella is a Forest Hills institution. They occupied their former Austin Street location for 21 years and have recently relocated to a shop just around the corner on Queens Boulevard.

Piu Bella specializes in homemade gelato in addition to a full food and beverage menu. From breakfast crepes to curly fries, from salads to paninis, their menu covers the gamut.

The new location features two separate dining rooms. The casual ice cream shop area is located in the back in a sunny, atrium-style room. The full cafe menu is available for sit down dining or you can take your cone to go. Walk across the street to the recently revitalized MacDonald Park and you can enjoy your treat while watching scores serious chess players battle it out.

The more formal front dining area is expected to open in about a month with a more sophisticated selection of entrees.

More than twenty varieties of gelato are available at any time. I sampled several and decided on a scoop of cookies ‘n’ cream ($3.50). To my delight, it was delicious and filled with enormous chunks of Oreo.

Caffe Piu Bella is located at 107-02 Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills, (347)430-3585.
