Ice Cream Crawl: Yogo Monster

Sometimes you want a cool off without blowing a day’s worth of calories. Or perhaps you want to give your kids a sweet treat with a hint of nutritional value. Luckily we have Yogo Monster in Queens (along with their two Brooklyn locations.)

Starting at just 20 calories per ounce for Original Tart, you can choose a dish or cone of fat-free frozen yogurt in four different flavors. You can then add fresh fruit such as strawberries, blueberries, mango, or pineapple or you can go a little more wild with sprinkles or assorted candies.

The Forest Hills location (on the second floor of the Austin Street strip mall between 70th Road and 70th Avenue) is a bright and modern venue. There is seating for about twelve customers. In addition to frozen yogurt they sell several varieties of hot, fresh pretzels.

I chose a Little Monster (6 ounces) in Original Tart with strawberries, watermelon, and gummy bears for $4.75. I thought the yogurt was delicious and refreshing, but my two year old was interested only in the gummy bears.

Prices begin at $3 for an original cone and go up to $7 for a 12 ounce serving of a special flavor. Toppings are additional; $1 for 1 and $1.50 for 3.

The shop is accessible by elevator for those customers with strollers. Credit cards are accepted. There is no public restroom. I found the music to be loud and unappealing for families, but they do offer patio seating.

Yogo Monster is located at 70-19 Austin Street, Forest Hills, NY 11375. They are open from 11-11 daily. (718)261-0661.
