Foodies, rejoice! The LIC Food Truck lot is bringing top of the line, gourmet food to Queens residents and visitors alike, every Monday through Friday from 11:00am – 3:00pm. Head over to 43-29 Crescent Street to taste delicious creations, like those from Cupcakestop Truck.
Winner of “Best Cupcake” on the Food Network’s Food Feuds, Cupcakestop serves gourmet cupcakes that are baked from scratch. We tried the Red Velvet, Oreo Crumb, and Starry Night, which is a lemon infused cake topped with a blueberry frosting. But their flavors don’t end there. Enjoy a classic like Black Forest, or go out on a limb and try French Toast and Bacon. Yes, bacon. There are two trucks that are in circulation in the NYC area, so the easiest way to find out when one of them will be at the lot is by following them on Twitter @CupcakeStop. Not on Twitter? Visit their website, where they have a Twitter Tracker, letting you know exactly where the trucks are, and what flavors each has on board.
I had a chance to ask Cupcakestop owner Richard Kallman a couple of questions about the truck and what he thought about the concept of having a food truck lot.
How do they select what flavors are available on the truck on any given day?
We always have our classics available everyday, such as Red Velvet and Chocolate Peanut butter and Smores.Depending on the time of year and season we will bring in new flavors such as Very Berry and Coconut Mango. Our chef is constantly developing new flavors and will be introducing our new Fall Flavors shortly… pumpkin..hint hint
Do you feel the lot concept is beneficial to food trucks, when part of the hype of food trucks is wondering where they’ll be?
This is a great question. Yes, part of the allure is having the truck in a new location everyday and in reality that is what is happening with the LIC lot. Yesterday we had CupcakeStop, Eddie’s Pizza and Frites N Meats while today we have Coolhaus, Red Hook Lobster and Korilla BBQ. So as you can see we are bringing a diverse offering to the LIC lot so the neighborhood can get a taste of the best Food Trucks in NYC. To see which trucks will be at the lot each day, check the official Twitter @LICfoodtrucklot or visit your favorite truck’s social media account.
The lot has on average three trucks on each day. To find out which trucks are involved with the lot, visit the NYC Food Truck Association website for a list of their trucks, along with links to each truck’s site. If the lot is successful, it will become permanent.
