ComicCon Comes to Queens

Who says you need to go to Manhattan to get your comic con fix? The first-ever Queens ComicCon is being held on Saturday, October 8th.  Head over to the Steinway branch of the Queens Library at 21-45 31 Street in Long Island City to meet the minds behind the stories and the art.

The afternoon’s schedule of events is as follows:

All afternoon – ComicCon workshops for kids; comic art activities; portfolio review by professional artists (bring your work!)

11:00 am – Local Authors Panel Discussion. Special guests include: Dave Roman (Jax Epoch & The Quicken Forbidden, and the Ignatz-award winning Teen Boat; Ryan Sias (Silent Kimbly), Ivan Velez Jr. (Ghost Rider, Extreme Justice, Power Puff Girls), and Eisner Award-winning author/artist Raina Telgemeier (Smile, Baby Sitter’s Club, Take-Out Comics); Jacob Chabot (x-Babies, Skullboy) and Chris Giarruso (G-Man, MiniMarvels)

12:00 pm – “Diversity in Comics” Panel Discussion

1:00 pm – Grading/Collecting Panel/Workshop

2:00 pm – Cosplay Fashion Show. Come in costume!

3:00 pm – Live Comics Auction.

 

The auction is of more than 500 collectible comics, with proceeds going to the purchase of new library materials at Queens Library at Steinway. Admission is free. Hours of the Queens ComicCon are from 11:00am – 4:00pm.
