Queens Library Seminars for College Bound Teens & Families

Queens Library is helping parents and teens heading to college ease the transition by hosting a series of seminars and workshops to answer any and all questions you or your children may have.

College is a scary topic for both parents and teens, and it comes with a myriad of questions and concerns. These seminars can help make the process less scary and more exciting. Best of all: they’re free. Pre-registration is required, though. You can do so by calling 718-591-4343.

Here are the details:

All seminars and workshops will be held at the Queens Library Pomonok branch, located at 158-21 Jewel Avenue in Flushing.

The schedule:

Monday, October 31 @ 5:00 p.m. Have you visited any colleges yet?

Monday, November 14 @ 5:00 p.m. Is there a doctor in the house?

Monday, November 21 @ 5:00 p.m. SAT Test Strategies Workshop – No need for stress.

Monday, November 28 @ 5:00 p.m. It’s All About You ! – Your College Admissions Essay

There will also be a night just for parents called College Club for Parents on Thursday, November 17th at 6:30pm. Lissette Velez  of the New York City Department of Education, and a parent of young adults, will talk about the issues and anxieties parents are facing: apply pressure or back off? How much support is enough and how much will backfire? How will I survive my child leaving me and going away?
