If you are planning a Trip to New York City to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade then it is best to be prepared before you go. The crowds and lack of bathrooms can be a disaster with children. Avoid any potential disasters by checking out our information below.
When is the Parade:
The Parade will be held on November 24th at 9am.
How to get there from Queens:
From Eastern Queens take the E train to 7th Ave and get out to find a spot close to Columbus Circle.
From Flushing and Long Island City take the 7 to Times Square
From Astoria take the N to 57th and 7th or 49th Street
2011 Thanksgiving Day Parade route:
The parade begins at 77th Street and Central Park West. It marches down CPW until it reaches Columbus Circle at 59th Street where it continues along 7th Avenue through Times Square. At 42nd Street the route turns on 42nd street for 1 block until 6th Ave to finish in front of Macy’s in Herald Square at 34th Street.
The first floats leave at 9am, and the last float sets off between 10:15 and 10:30am. The further down the parade route you are the longer it will take for you to see any action.
What to Wear:
Dress warm! It will be freezing cold early in the morning. Layer up by putting a synthetic layer closest to the skin and building up with wool and cotton. Hand warmers are also a nice touch to keep children warm.
What to Bring:
Snacks, water, a camera, $60 in cash for incidentals, and a small folding chair in case a kid needs to sit down.
