With the holidays quickly approaching, check out these great holiday shops and markets around Queens for unique gifts for everyone on your list!


The Story Nook’s 1st Annual Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale

At this bazaar, you will find a wide variety of puzzles, books, puppets and other great products for children. It will also feature handmade items from local vendors. The proceeds from their bake sale will support Music Making a Difference, a charity started by the owner of Astoria’s The Giving Tree Yoga Studio, Anne-Margaret Redding. She hosts a workshop for high school and college-age kids called “Live Your Passion” to help teens make positive decisions in their lives. For more information, check out her website.

Astoria Market at the Bohemian Hall

The Astoria Market prides itself on offering a space for local artisans to sell their wares. They feature a variety of products from baked goods to crocheted dolls to vintage products. You will find some of the same vendors who will be at the Columbus Ave. Pop-Up. When you’ve exhausted yourself with shopping, pop over to the Beer Garden for refreshments both kid and adult-friendly. Here are the shops offering baby and children’s items:

  1. Handcrafting Justice – Toys, baby clothes, home décor and other handmade goods made by enterprising women in developing countries who are trying to improve their lives and the lives of those around them.
  2. D Marie – Handmade & embellished children’s wear and accessories
  3. Belle Ami Crochet – Amigurumi crochet animal
  4. Magpie – Fun and colorful hair accessories

When: Sunday December 11th and 18th, 12:00pm -6:00pm

Winter Solstice Celebration & Holiday Marketplace

Come celebrate the season with a variety of family-friendly activities, and get some shopping done at the same time! Throughout the day, children can construct and decorate pinecone birdfeeders, and make their own snowflakes and snowmen. As you stroll through the gardens, you will be entertained by seasonal songs from of the Flushing High School Choir as well as an operatic acapella singer. For younger children, there will be a reading of Margery Cuyler’s The Biggest Best Snowman. When it’s time to shop, you’ll find vendors selling jewelry, crafts such as pressed and dried flower, children’s items, and more. You can also buy various plant items. While at the gardens, be sure to take a tour of the berries and other plants that are in bloom. You can also learn about the unique bark of the trees featured in the gardens. This event is free and good for children 1 ½ and older.

When: Sunday, December 18, 11:00am – 4:00pm (Activities begin at noon)

Sunnyside Gardens Park Holiday Boutique

Please bring your donations of NEW items such as toys, clothing (original tags included), handmade crafts, jewelry & other items that would make great gifts to the park office prior to Sunday, between the hours of 10:00 and 4:00. The proceeds from the sale of these items will be used to support the park. On the day of the event you can enjoy games, pictures with Santa, and other activities to get your family in the holiday spirit. There will be a coat drive for NY Cares and a non-perishable food drive to support St. Raphael’s Food Pantry. Items will be collected during the above mentioned times. The most needed foods are:

  • canned  fruit
  • canned  vegetables
  • peanut  butter (plastic jars)
  • mac & cheese (packaged)
  • hot &  cold cereal (packaged, family sized)

Also, volunteers are needed for the following tasks:
Set Up: 7:00 am -10:00am
Sales: 10:00-1:00
Sales: 1:00-4:00
Clean  Up: 4:00-5:30
Baked  Goods

Shop-a-Holiday on 23rd

Get your holiday shopping done while helping a great cause! Check out various retailers on 23rd Ave. who will donate10% from their sales on Saturday to “Shareing & Careing,” a local cancer support charity. They will also have donation boxes in their stores throughout the month. The retailers include: Belief, Creators’ Co-Op, Fresh Start, The Jumping Bulldog, KrisTEES, Peter Valcarcel Home, and Rejuvenate Face & Body. As you make your way into each store, you will find tasty treats, fashion, home décor, rare creations by local artists, and much more. This is how it works: Pick up your “Retail Passport” at any of the participating shops, and have it stamped by each of them. Once your passport is full, take it to KrisTEES where you will receive a tote bag filled with holiday promotions from retailers on 23rd Ave., an ornament and a cookie specially designed for the event. So put on your sneakers on and get ready to walk!
