Kids’ Ski Gear: What You Need, and Where to Get It

Ski season is upon us!  It’s the perfect time to get the kids ready for some serious fun in the snow.  Whether your little ones are novices or experienced snow bunnies you’ll need to make sure you have the right gear for a good time.  So, just what do you need, and where will you find it?  Queens Mamas has all the info you need!

Queens Mamas Tips for Kids’ Ski Gear:

  • Stay Warm: Make sure your kids have insulated, waterproof ski jackets, bib-style pants, mittens and socks.  Don’t forget to have a warm insulating layer of fleece or wool underneath all their outerwear.  Avoid cotton layers, which trap moisture.  Synthetics or wool wick moisture away from skin and will keep you warmer.
  • Stay Safe: Goggles which protect the eyes and prevent glare, are worth purchasing even for growing children as they will usually fit for 2 or more seasons.  A helmet is essential to protect your little ones from falls, and will also keep their head warmer than a hat.  Make sure it is adjustable for a proper fit, and make sure your child wears it each and every time they are on the slopes.
  • Get Fitted: Get the right size skis; they should measure no longer than nose or chin high.  Have a professional measure and advise you on what length and type will suit your child.  Braces should always be checked by a pro, and adjusted to your child’s height and weight before each season.  Ensure that boots fit those ever-growing feet correctly; make sure they’ve been measured and checked at a reliable shop.
