Resobox Japanese Art Gallery: Weekly Classes for Kids

If you have a little one in your house who loves “Hello Kitty,” “Pikachu” or “Rilakkuma,” or just loves to draw, then consider bringing them down to the Resobox Japanese Art Gallery in Long Island City for upcoming Japanese cultural weekly classes for kids where they can pick up new artistic skills and learn more about Japan.

Resobox is a place where people who are conversant with, dedicated to, and influenced by Japanese arts can gather, create innovative arts through the collaborative process and disseminate them to the world. Other classes offered at the Gallery include everything from classical Japanese dance to karate.

Two classes are being offered; Kawaii Character Drawing (Fridays, 6:30-7:45pm) and Illustrations: Icons of Japanese Tradition (Sundays, 2:00pm to 3:15pm). All classes are $15 each, and first classes are offered at 50% off.

Unlike the arts and crafts your child does at playgroup or the library, these classes will help immerse kids, tweens and teens into the Japanese culture.  Kawaii, the Japanese word for “cuteness”, holds a major place in Japanese pop culture, and the Japanese Illustration class will teach your child about important concept in Japan’s history beyond the common images like samurai, etc.. Check out Resobox’s facebook page for even more information and photos.
