The designers were all winners of the Search for a Design Star contest sponsored by Imagine This BabyWear, Petunia and us – Queens Mamas.
Erin Black’s winning design features a single friendly monster, Susie Concelmo won with her smiling owl-and-mouse print and the youngest winner, 5-year-old Lyla Black, created a pink fairy-and butterfly design.
The models were also newcomers on the fashion scene (and every other scene, for that matter). 15-month-old Alessia Succes modeled Concelmo’s shirt-and-pants set. Lyla Black recruited her 6-month-old sister Tessa to model her designs. And the sole male-model, 3-month-old Josh Gellerstein, showed off Erin Black’s romper and hat.
Liz Geier, President of Imagine This, is no stranger to working with very young designers. Her company specializes in helping clients Lyla’s age and even younger, design fashions for themselves and for their newborn siblings. “Children’s art really lends itself to baby wear prints” she says “Parents are always amazed at the outfits that result from their kids’ art when it’s treated with the same respect as a professional designers artwork. When I first started Imagine This I was surprised by it too but now I’ve come to realize that often kids can do as good a job at designing children’s textiles as adults – sometimes they can even do a better job”.
The lines include shirts, pants, rompers and hats and are made in the U.S. from 100% organic cotton. They are available as a limited edition exclusively at Petunia with prices starting at $35. Each designer created a logo for their hangtag and label. Susie’s line is Lotus Designs, Erin’s is Monster Wear by Erin Black and Lyla’s is simply Lyla Black.
