Circus Warehouse, located 53-21 Vernon Blvd. in Long Island City, is a professional training facility for circus performers, but you don’t have to be an aspiring trapeze artist to get in on the act. They offer classes for children and adults that are taught by professional circus performers, and if you’re looking for a unique idea for a birthday party or other celebration, they have a lot to offer.
Circus Warehouse only has two classes geared towards children, but both of them give kids the opportunity to try a variety of circus disciplines. For children ages 7-11, there is Kid’s Circus. During each hour and a half class, students learn three different circus arts, which include wire, juggling, balance, tumbling, trampoline, clowning/physical acting, and aerial arts. It’s a fun, wonderful way for them to gain self-confidence and stay active.
Teen Aerial is a unique class for kids 12-15 who want to explore aerial performing. Teens will build a strong foundation for aerial acrobatics so they can perform on apparatuses including silks, static trapeze and lyra (Silks – acrobats perform from a special fabric suspended from the ceiling; Static trapeze – unlike the traditional trapeze, the bars and ropes on the static trapeze don’t move much; Lyra (aerial hoop) – acrobats perform in a steel hoop suspended from the ceiling). This class will prepare students for adult classes.
For adults and kids 15 and older who are not interested in becoming professional circus performers, but want to experience the magic of circus acrobatics, there are open level classes on nights and weekends for trapeze, lyra, silks, and static trapeze. For the teen who does want to pursue a career as a circus performer, there are many wonderful classes for them to take. Check out their website for the class descriptions and schedules.
If an exciting party is what you’re planning, Circus Warehouse might have what you are looking for. They can provide performers for almost any occasion: weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, bachelor/bachelorette parties and more. If you don’t want to be on the side-line, you can bring your birthday party to them. They can teach any of their classes to a small private group, such as juggling and tight wire. It will be a party your kids won’t forget!
So the next time your child says she wants to run away and join the circus, you can grant one of her wishes. Sign her up for one of these unique classes and feed her need for play, or better yet, feed your need for play! Circus Warehouse will give you an excellent work-out that is not only intense, but extremely fun as well.
