High School Applications- Second Round

Round 1 high school assignments were issued a few weeks ago. Students who didn’t receive an assignment or who were unhappy with assignment can apply for round 2. The deadline is March 15. In round 2, students can apply to new small high schools, which are opening in September 2012 and other programs that have openings. The application is available from your child’s guidance counselor.  The directories of available programs are here.

22nd Annual Latino College Expo and Youth Summit

Students and families can meet staff from over 75 colleges. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with representatives from community based organizations and to participate in raffles and workshops.

When: Saturday, March 17 from 12 to 3PM

Universal Pre-K (UPK) Admissions Dates

The UPK application is out for both community-based organizations (CBO) and Department of Education (DOE) programs. The deadline for DOE programs is April 5.  CBO programs may have their own deadlines or rolling admission throughout the year. Don’t forget to check. The directory and applications is available here.

Kindergarten Admissions- Assignments

You’ll find out where junior was assigned between by March 23. You can register starting March 26.

Forum for Pre-Kindergarten Families: Transitioning to Kindergarten

If you have a 4-year old, attend to learn more about the move from Pre-K to K. This workshop is being held by the DOE in each borough. Queens’ workshop is on Tuesday, March 27 2012 from 6PM to 8PMat PS 273 (88-07 102nd Street).

Parent Teacher Conferences

Check your child’s progress in school by speaking to the teachers and other staff at the schools. Prepare yourself by writing a list of questions and concerns to speak about. See a list here.
