Mother’s Day Brunch at Home

Mamas, we know how hard you work. You know how hard you work. This Mother’s Day you deserve a morning to sleep in and have a beautiful brunch waiting for you. Don’t have a personal chef? Well, no worries, because this brunch requires absolutely no cooking. Let your family spoil you for once by sending them out to any one of Queens’ spectacular bakeries or food shops for some early morning shopping while you get a little extra shut-eye. And, if your loved ones aren’t sure where to get the best brunch goodies, we’ve got some great suggestions.

We hit up three different locations to put together this brunch, but any one of them had more than enough options for a completely lovely and special brunch.

At Astor Bake Shop, in the heart of “old Astoria” we picked up a few beautiful servings of quiche. Each creamy slice is loaded with smoky bacon, topped with paper-thin apple slices and served with a side of greens.

Our next stop was Cannelle Patisserie in East Elmhurst, where we picked up buttery almond and chocolate croissants, a strip of apricot tart, and some passion/guava Danish. We even got some of their coffee to go.

To round out our perfect brunch we headed over to Food Cellar in LIC, a supermarket with a bakery and café section full of prepared foods that are ready to serve. We bought some scones, freshly baked muffins, as well as some granola, fresh berries and yogurt for a parfait. For a special drink, we brought home a bottle of Lorina, a sparkling (non-alcoholic) French berry beverage that’s a hit with kids, and can be topped off with a little champagne in Mom’s glass.

Once you’ve picked up all you need for brunch, it’s easy to set a nice table for a buffet or serve Mom breakfast in bed. Just remember, when putting together Mom’s special brunch, make sure you ditch the take-out containers. Use the nice dishes and then don’t let her clean up a thing. Happy Mother’s Day Mamas!
