Parents and Kids Bike for a Cause in the TD Five Boro Bike Tour

Calling all bikers, young and old! If you missed your opportunity to join the TD Five Boro Bike Tour through the lottery, don’t worry. You can join any of the Ride for a Reason charity partners on May 6, when thousands of bikers will take to the streets of New York.

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour winds its way through 40 miles of streets and bridges in Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs. If you love riding with your children, they can join you, too! There must be one adult for every child, and children ages 3-9 are required to ride on a child bike seat, tandem bike, tagalongbike, or bike trailer. Children 10-13 may ride their own bikes, but they must stay near their guardian. Teens 14-17 are allowed to ride on their own, but they must have a registered adult riding in the tour as well. You can share an enjoyable, challenging ride, and help out others at the same time. Click on the link for the charity you wish to ride for on the bike tour’s website, and fill out the application.

You will be assigned a number (this will happen early this month, so sign up soon) and a start time. They stagger start times to prevent congestion, and you can find information on the website about inability to finish the race and safety procedures. There are several rest stops along the route, and a finish line festival in StatenIsland. The race goes on, rain or shine, so be sure to check the weather and bring the appropriate gear. With spring arriving so early, it should be a beautiful ride!
