The Jackson Heights Greenmarket

There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh, local fruits and veggies. Beyond that, with the concern of pesticides and treatments, eating closer to the earth is much healthier. Now that the weather is getting warmer, some of the finest seasonal produce is readily available. And you’re in luck; several of the city’s best farmers markets can be found right here in Queens NYC.


The Elmhurst Greenmarket sells flowers, fresh cuts of meats, and baked goods, amongst other items.

Location: 41st Avenue between 80th and 81st Streets

The Astoria Greenmarket is a small market with a good selection of fruits and vegetables. Check out the varied array of Mexican hot peppers and tomatillos.

Location: On 14th Street between 31st Ave. and 31st Road

Schedule: Wednesdays, July 6 through November 14, 8am-3pm



The Maspeth Farmers Market will be held in conjunction with Martin Luther School. In addition to fruits, vegetables, pies, meats, and eggs, there will also be crafts for kids, book signings, and live music.

Location: Martin Luther School is located at 60-02 Maspeth Avenue in Maspeth, between 60th and 61st Streets, two blocks north of Grand Avenue

The Queens Botanical Garden Greenmarket offers fruits, vegetables, herbs, and organic coffee. Enjoy a selection of organic locally roasted nuts and nut butters!

Location: Dahlia Avenue off Main Street

Schedule: Fridays, July 1 through November 18, 8:30am-4pm

The Corona Greenmarket offers specialty Mexican vegetables and herbs, as well as community activities, recipe exchanges, and cooking demonstrations.

Location: Roosevelt Avenue at 103rd Street

The Jamaica Farmers Market offers fresh beets, eggs, meats, pickes cider and more.

Location: 160th St. off Jamaica Ave. (Street Address: 90-40 160th Street)

The Socrates Sculpture Park Greenmarket offers cooking demos, seasonal celebrations, and family friendly activities, in addition to the standard fruits, vegetables, breads, and herbs.

Location: Socrates Sculpture Park

Schedule: Saturdays, June 25 through November 19, 2011, 8am-4pm

The Sunnyside Greenmarket is going into it’s fourth year. Cheese, grass fed beef, local wines, and Asian specialty produce are all available at this thriving market. Every Saturday there will be a kitchen scrap collection by the Western Queens Compost Initiative.

Location: On Skillman Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Street

The Atlas Park Greenmarket is located in The Atlas Park Mall. This market offers fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and potted herb plants.

Location: Atlas Park Mall; Cooper Ave at 80th Street

Schedule: Saturdays, June 18 through November 19, 8am-3pm

The Ridgewood Youthmarket is run by tweens and teens from the Bushwick and Ridgewood communities. Each Saturday, they sell fresh fruits and vegetables purchased from the Wholesale Greenmarket and Prospect Hill Orchards.

Location: Myrtle Ave and Cypress Ave.

Schedule: Saturdays, July 9 through October 29, 10am – 2pm



The Jackson Heights Greenmarket is located in one of New York’s most diverse neighborhoods, and is also the largest greenmarket in Queens. This market offers everything from vegetables and fruits, to fish, honey, chicken and eggs. Come for the family friendly events hosted each week by Friends of Travers Park.

Location: 34th Avenue between 77th and 78th Streets, and on 78th Strett between 34th Avenue and Northern Blvd

The New York Hall of Science Greenmarket is sponsored by, and located next to, the science museum. Enjoy baked goods, fruits, herbs, vegetables, and science themed demonstrations.

Schedule: Sundays, June 20 through November 14, 10am-4pm

The Forest Hills Greenmarket is located right in front of the Forest Hills Post Office. You’ll find an abundance of locally grown fresh produce every week, as well as free cooking demos, kids activities and more!

Location: South side of Queens Blvd at 70th Avenue

Schedule: Sundays, July 8 through November 18, 8am – 3pm

The Douglaston Greenmarket will be full of great fruits, veggies, and baked goods  throughout the peak of market season. You’ll find it set up at the LIRR station.
