With the summer days dwindling away, you may be looking for one last quick trip before school starts again. Look no further than Mystic, CT, where you will find the only Beluga whales in New England, plus another 300 species of aquatic life, at the Mystic Aquarium.
Located just about two and a half hours away from Queens, Mystic Aquarium isn’t your average aquarium. Everywhere you look, there are interactive exhibits, where visitors can actually TOUCH some of the animals, including sting rays, sharks, and more. There are your usual fish, plus jellyfish, birds, sea lions, penguins, and tons of other animals.
There is also a live theater, a sea lion show to remember, and an in-depth Titanic exhibit (Titanic – 12,450 Feet Below,) where former Disney Imagineer Tim Delaney brings the story of the Titanic to life with interactive exhibits and more. The goal is to have visitors feel as though they are discovering the stories of the Titanic for the first time.
The aquarium also has a series of encounter programs, where visitors can get even closer to some of the animals, such as:
- Trainer for a Day
- Beluga Encounter
- Whales Up Close
- Penguin Encounter
These encounters range in price from $55 all the way to $375 for non-members ($49-$350 for members.) The experience will definitely be one to remember. For more info on the encounters, like what each specifically entails, click here.
General admission to the aquarium is $29 for adults, $21 for kids ages 3-17, and kids 2 and under are free! Parking is also free as well. They also offer combination tickets, where you get admission to the aquarium and admission to the Mystic Seaport, Connecticut Science Center, or value tickets that include aquarium admission, plus admission to their 4D theater and their Birds of the Outback exhibit.
