Architots - Middle Village
Architots hosts a Tiny Tot Time class that is designed for newborns to 18 month olds. It is only an hour long, casual, offers color and music stimulation, and is mainly for interaction with other kids. Since it only meets once a week, the little ones won’t be inundated with too many different things at once.
Samuel Field Y – College Point
Samuel Field Y offers not only fun, but support for mothers as well. They have a Drop-In Center for mothers of toddlers and a Mom & Baby group for mothers with babies under 1. The Drop-In Center provides resources for mothers and gives them a place to meet other moms to discuss issues they might be having and to share ideas. While they talk, a trained teacher leads kids through a variety of activities. The Mom & Baby Group is more of a support group with a facilitator who leads relevant discussions. It is another great place for new mothers to make friends and get advice for problems they might be having. Both of these groups meet weekly, and pre-registration is not required. If you are interested in day care and pre-school, the Y has many great options ranging from partial to full-time separation.

Run by an American woman named Merrianne Moore, Fun with Chinese Characters is aimed at teaching the Chinese language in an oral and performance based way to young children. With a background in Theatre Studies, Merrianne spent 7 years in Beijing where she studied at the Beijing Opera. “I was studying next to 11 year olds. It was embarrassing at times” she recalls, but this gave her a unique perspective on how children learn when exposed to the arts. Using a real live Chinese actor to play out her stories, Merrianne chooses a story to tell during her course.

They are usually Alley Pond Environmental Center One structured around nature, animals, and crafting (with natural items of course) and toddler classes begin at 18 months with a Parent and Me “Wee Sprouts” and “Toddler Time” class offered during the week. As the kids get a bit older (3-4 years) there is a drop off program offered where the kids can have the same amount of fun but without your hands on involvement.
