Tucked away on a quiet tree-lined street in the heart of Long Island City is a LIC Living, a unique little clothing boutique for women and children. Immediately upon entering the store, it becomes evident that owners Jillian Tangen and Rebekah Witzke put a lot of thought into the physical space and its affect upon the shopper. The boutiques’ overall feel is airy, sophisticated, and chic, reminiscent of streamlined designers like Calvin Klein and shops that dot the landscape of the West Village; however, the prices and the attitude are a far cry from the west village.
The children’s sections features a handpicked selection of clothing and some off-the-beaten path toys and puzzles (for example, a 3-D bird-in-the tree puzzle); the women’s clothing is just as carefully chosen, and a great highlight, TOMS shoes—LIC Living is one of the only shops in Queens that sells TOMS shoes (both for women and children).
LIC Living is one of the many business participating in this years LIC open arts. The store is housing house four paintings by Princeton, NJ artist, Mic Boekelmann. This Friday night Mic will be at the store (from 6-9) to discuss her work. So, if you have thought of buying one of her superb oil paintings, Friday night would be an opportune time, as she is gracisouly offering 10% off any one of the in-store paintings. With each painting you will receive a certificate of authenticity and a 24 hour “live with it guarantee.” For more on Mic’s work, see her website: micbstudio.com.
So this Friday, make your way down to LIC living, check out the store and Mic, and then grab a bite at one of the great restaurants.
