Kids in grades K through 6 have an opportunity to get on stage this fall at the Unity Stage Company in Queens.
The Unity Stage Company is a home for theater artists of all ages and serves the communities of Western Queens with its theater productions, summer youth program and year-round performing arts programs. This season kids are invited to take part in weekly rehearsals for the musical comedy classic Oklahoma! “We are thrilled to be able to offer kids the chance to sing these glorious songs written by Broadway legends Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein.” says Unity Stage Artistic Director Sofia Landon Geier. The script and music are part of a G2K version adapted especially for performance by pre-high schoolers by the Rodgers and Hammerstein organization.
Unity Stage in Sunnyside Queens is offering a fall performance opportunity for youth in two separate Western Queens’ locations. The Sunnyside cast meets on Thursdays beginning September 19 from 4pm to 5:30pm at Queen of Angels Church. The Jackson Heights cast meets Fridays beginning September 20 from 5pm to 6:30pm at St. Marks Church. Teens in grades 6 -10 perform in their own Sunnyside theater program that also meets on Thursdays from 4:30pm to 6pm.
Public performances for all programs will take place in March 2014 and partial scholarships are available.
