It’s the Year of the Horse—with REAL horses!

Come join the Queens Zoo for a unique celebration of the Chinese New Year!  Guests of all ages can join in the cultural fun with special crafts, traditional performances and of course, a wide variety of rare and amazing animals.

Meet the “real” horse behind the year with special keeper chats on the farm and help celebrate all of the animals of the Chinese zodiac with an exciting scavenger hunt around the zoo. You might even receive a special treat at the end! Guests can craft their very own dragon masks and Chinese lanterns, enjoy hot cocoa and listen to stories throughout the day.

Saturday, February 1 (11 a.m.-4 p.m.): Learn the elegance and expertise of Chinese calligraphy from professional artists. Children can learn special techniques, design their own animal-themed bookmarks and even have their name written in Chinese calligraphy.

Sunday, February 2 (11 a.m.-4 p.m.): Come see local theatre company Chinese Theatre Works perform an authentic Lion & Dragon Dance Parade. This interactive show allows children to learn the basic skills of this traditional Chinese New Year celebration. Guests can learn the art of Chinese dance and show off their newly-found talents in a ribbon dance parade around the zoo.

Come join us to get a unique, animal-themed experience at the Queens Zoo in this celebration of animals, cultural tradition, and good fortune!

This Chinese New Year celebration is rain or shine. All activities are free with admission to the zoo. For details, times, and information, please visit queenszoo.com or call 718-271-7361.
